Autism
Providing therapy to autistic clients is something that requires specific training and expertise. But the reasons why might not be what you expect. Autism is not something that can be “treated” with therapy. It doesn’t need to be. It’s something that a person is born with, and needs to be accommodated. This can cause confusion in the therapy space, and sometimes therapists are not trained or do not realize that autism requires specific accommodations due to the nature of the disability/neurotype. Linked below is a blog that I wrote on the topic for more information about what therapists need to know.
